Hi,

After years of growing frustrated with the politics in Washington, and the apparent lack of anyone able to analysis some of the rhetoric, I decided to put some of my thoughts and analysis here.

Are you as stupid as the Republics think you are?

I came to this question after reading an article in the Providence Sunday Journal during the Republican campaign to impeach President Clinton. At the time a huge percentage of Americans did not want the Republicans to continue with impeachment. The article brought out the question of why would the Republicans continue with such an overwhelming number of Americans did not want to continue. The reason came down to the belief that, as Americans, our memories are short. By the time elections came around, we would forget. My response is: How Stupid Do You Think I Am?!

Most People who agree with Republican arguments fall into three categories: You are as stupid as the Republicans think you are; Your analysis of the topic is limited to 'sound bites'; or You are selfish or greedy.

  Wag the Dog...

An editor at Time Magazine was interviewed last week on the Today Show. In the interview he mentioned that, if even without a UN vote authorizing war with Iraq, that the Bush Administration had a rosy view of the future (paraphrased). They expect that the war would be short. Afterwards, the Stock Market would rally and the economy improve. Opposition to the war would evaporate. Bush would get a boost in the polls. Then they could go after Democrats and push through their economic plan.

Does this sound like the concept behind the movie, Wag the Dog? It does to me. The Bush Administration is viewing a war as part of their strategy to advance their political agenda.

I guess they think we're stupid!

  Attack on the Constitution!

In the last couple of days, Sen. Daschle has been under attach on comments that he made about Bush's diplomatic success. ("...failed so miserably at diplomacy the we're now forced to go to war.") Republican Senators and Congressman have attacked Daschale's comments implying that he is unpatriotic. This political bullying is to squelch any opposition to Bush's agenda and maintain or increase Bush's ratings in the polls. Republicans are attempting to silence any opposition by labeling anyone who disagrees with them as some how being unpatriotic.

This Republican Stalinism is a direct attack on the Constitution. With their attempt to squelch any opposition to their agenda, they are attempting to circumvent the First Amendment to the Constitution and our freedom of speech. They are bullying any opposition to keep them quiet.

In a White House briefing, Flecher, responding to questions about the attacks on Daschale, said that "... you did not hear it from here." This appears to be a sidestepping of questions as to whether Bush is supporting the Republican's bullying tactic. If he is supporting this Republican Stalinism, Bush is supporting an attack on our freedom of speech and on the Constitution -- an irony since he mentioned that he is defending the Constitution in is last speech to the nation. I guess he only supports the Constitution when he can use it for his agenda.
